17th Annual Conference recap 2005 Conference in Corpus Christi, TX

Making Waves to End Homelessness

Hymn to the Labor of You and I
(by Keynote speaker Shaun Griffin)

All day in my job
I harbored the rise of human sculpt
the chorus of us, and not one
heard the feet of Faust at the door:
no music to right the sainted wrong-
our words became our thieves.

To live without the harobed of suffering
is to be alone in this landscape,
to wish peace descend
is to witness the death of pain
in the pupil of an eye,
and then I kept my secret,
knew the chorus could not be shared-

and singing still, retreat
to the lives that would not be sung.

The Texas Homeless Network recently hosted our 17 th Annual Statewide Conference on Homelessness in Corpus Christi.

From October 11-14, 2005, nearly 300 homeless service providers, local government officials, state policy makers, state and national advocates, and homeless individuals gathered together to share information, learn new skills, and discuss homeless issues statewide. We want to thank everyone for sharing your ideas and encouraging us to continue this valuable event.

Thank you to all that attended this year’s conference. Our next conference will be in Houston on September 5-8, 2006.

THN hosts the only statewide conference on homelessness in Texas. THN makes an effort to hold the conference in different cities every year in order to make it accessible to all regions of the state.

We will be requesting speakers for next year’s conference starting in May and June of 2006. Please contact conference@thn.org if you have ideas for next year’s conference or if you are interested in presenting a workshop.
