It’s almost spring and time to start a production of the second calendar ever produced by Texas Homeless Network. Face the Homeless, the education campaign launched in September of 2006 and the name of the 2007 calendar, has been very successful this year with calendar and shirt sales exceeding expectations! The THN Conference Committee likes the concept so much that we’ve decided to name the upcoming 2007 Conference, Face the Homeless! The concept behind Face the Homeless is to provide educational tools about homelessness to communities while raising funds for our programs (and yours) at the same time.
Last year, the calendar displayed statistics about each homeless population paired with powerful pictures of those experiencing homelessness. We sold almost every calendar, purchased mostly by shelters and ISDs around Texas. This year the concept has changed slightly: the 2008 calendar will showcase different organizations around Texas that have innovative programs that prevent and eliminate homelessness. THN would like to serve our members by producing a calendar of some of the stars around Texas that have programs that are focusing on preventing homelessness and helping those that are homeless break the cycle. THN encourages all of its 300 members to apply for a slot in the calendar by filling out the insert including in this mailing. This year we plan on selling these calendars at mainstream grocery stores and bookstores so that our communities around Texas will know about organizations that are doing something to stop homelessness. We encourage you to include any articles written about your organization and important fundraising and volunteer events that you may have planned. This calendar is an excellent way to communicate with individuals that don’t understand what role we play in preventing and eliminating homelessness. Those that see the calendar may decide after flipping through that your organization is one that they’d love to volunteer for or perhaps make a donation!
