Organizations that focus on either large urban or suburban populations, or rural areas are supported through the foundation’s Social Service priority. Private organizations typically are favored over public ones. Faith-based groups are eligible for funds, provided their projects fit within the foundation’s guidelines.

In 2003, the foundation awarded 101 grants totaling $6.6 million to social service programs nationwide.

Applying for these funds involves submitting a one-page executive summary, a proposal narrative of no more than five pages and other materials as described at http://www.hearstfdn.org/gl_application.html.

For more information on this opportunity, visit http://www.hearstfdn.org/fp_socialservice.html, or contact the foundation office at (415) 543-0400 (California).

The Hasbro Children’s Foundation will accept requests for funds to support direct services for disadvantaged children ages 12 and younger.

Nonprofit organizations can apply for three types of awards available from Hasbro. Small grants that range from $500 to $35,000 each are available to expand innovative programs with local impacts. Larger grants of more than $35,000 may be awarded to replicate or adapt existing direct service programs in multiple sites throughout the nation. Additionally seed grants are available for new, innovative programs serving vulnerable children and their families that have the potential to positively impact children in all communities throughout the nation.

Applications will be accepted throughout the year until October 15, 2005. Guidelines for submitting a letter of intent and full proposal are available online at http://www.hasbro.org/pl/page.how_to_apply/dn/hcf/default.cfm. For more information on the Hasbro program, contact the foundation at (212) 713-7654.
