Duration of Homelessness and Migration


This section deals with duration of homelessness, which in the data collection process was associated with the question "How long have you been homeless?". The duration of homeless was divided into 7 categories: less than one month, two to six months, six months to one year, one to two years, two to five years, five to ten years, and more than ten years.

 

This section also deals with migration patterns of the homeless individuals, which in the data collection process is associated with the question "Before you became homeless, were you living in this city/town or another city/town?".

 

1. What proportion of the homeless population migrated after homelessness?

2. Do homeless individuals migrate more to small cities than to large cities?

3. Where do the homeless population come from? Does the birth city distribution of the homeless population differ between large and small cities?

4. Do older homeless people migrate less frequently than younger homeless individuals?

5. Is the proportion of migration after homelessness different for each race/ethnicity?

6. Do single individuals migrate more after homelessness than married, divorced and separated ones?

7. What is the proportion of homeless individuals on probation or parole that migrated after homelessness ?

8. How long people stay as homeless?

9. Do men remain homeless longer than women?

10. Do single people remain homeless longer than married individuals?

11. Do individuals who have family living with them remain less time as homeless?

12. Do people who have been homeless for a long time have fewer jobs than recent homeless individuals? Do these groups differ in work schedule?

13. Is length of homelessness related to length of unemployment?

14. Do individuals who have been homeless for a long time search less for jobs than recent homeless?
