Legal Advocacy to Break the Cycle of Poverty

This workshop addresses the full spectrum of education rights of children and youth who are highly mobile, including those experiencing homelessness, displaced by natural disasters, those in foster care, those whose families are migrant workers, and those who have run away from or been forced out of their homes.

Some of the laws discussed confer the right to: enroll in school immediately, without documents; remain in the same school despite residence changed; receive transportation to school; receive special education and related services; participate fully in all school activities; receive supplemental school services; and to be free of discrimination.
