    The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Find Shelter tool provides information about housing, shelter, health care, and clothing resources in communities across the country.
  • Texas Housing Assistance Line

    This resource is available statewide 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to help people facing housing instability or homelessness, with a focus on people dealing with mental health or substance use issues.

    TSAHC provides fixed-rate mortgage financing, down payment assistance grants and second liens, as well as mortgage credit certificates for teachers, police officers, corrections officers, fire fighters, EMS personnel, veterans and low and moderate-income households. Our home buyer programs are open to first-time home buyers, as well as repeat home buyers and existing homeowners.

    Texas is a state where landlords hold a bulk of the power, but tenants do have rights. It’s important for renters to be aware of these protections and standards that must be upheld.
  • Texas Eviction Hotline

    “For qualified Texans, TLSC can give information and advice regarding eviction relief. Attorneys can negotiate with landlords so tenants can stay in their homes. Attorneys can also help tenants access local rent and utility programs. ​For some individuals, TLSC can provide in-court representation. 
  • Crime Victims Compensation

    The Crime Victims’ Compensation (CVC) Program helps crime victims and their immediate families with the financial costs of crime. CVC covers crime-related costs such as counseling, medical treatment, funerals, and loss of income not paid by other sources.
  • Texas Advocacy Project

    Offers free legal services to victims of abuse. They can provide advice over the phone, support with do-it-yourself legal filing processes, and client representation.

    The National Domestic Violence Hotline provides essential tools and support to help survivors of domestic violence so they can live their lives free of abuse. Contacts to The Hotline can expect highly-trained, expert advocates to offer free, confidential, and compassionate support, crisis intervention information, education, and referral services in over 200 languages.

  • Adult Protective Services

    APS investigates abuse, neglect, and exploitation of adults who are elderly or have disabilities and who live in the community. Any adult who has a disability or who is age 65 or older that is in a state of abuse, neglect, or exploitation may be eligible to receive adult protective services. Victims of abuse, neglect, or exploitation may get short-term help with shelter, home repairs, food, transportation, managing money, medical care, home healthcare services, and mental health services.

  • Disability Rights Texas

    DRT’s mission is to help people with disabilities understand and exercise their rights under the law, ensuring their full and equal participation in society. They provide legal assistance, advocacy support, know-your-rights assistance, and referrals.
  • SOAR (SSI/SSDI, Outreach, Access, and Recovery)

    SOAR is a national project designed to increase access to SSI/SSDI benefits for eligible children, youth, and adults who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness and have a serious mental illness and/or co-occurring substance use disorder.

    The Deaf Hotline is a 24/7 hotline formed by a partnership between ADWAS (Abused Deaf Women’s Advocacy Services) and NDVH (National Domestic Violence Hotline). They offer 24/7 support for the deaf community. Deaf Hotline advocates receive extensive training in domestic & sexual violence. Hotline services are offered in ASL, video relay (VRS/VP), via email, and live chat.

    Local Mental Health Authorities and and Local Behavioral Health Authorities provide services to specific areas. To find where to get services in your area, you need to know which county or ZIP Code you live in. The online mental health services search form and this service area map (PDF) will help you find the LMHA or LBHA closest to you. If you already know your county’s LMHA or LBHA, you can find its contact information below. The LMHA’s or LBHA’s referral line provides confidential help 24/7.

    Alcoholics Anonymous is a global peer-led mutual aid fellowship begun in the United States dedicated to abstinence-based recovery from alcoholism through its spiritually inclined twelve-step program.

    If you are a Veteran who is homeless or at risk of becoming homeless due to financial hardship, unemployment, addiction, depression, or transition from jail, VA Central Texas health care can help you. Contact a homeless services care coordinator to get help.
  • U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs

    The Department of Veterans Affairs runs programs benefiting veterans and members of their families. It offers education opportunities and rehabilitation services and provides compensation payments for disabilities or death related to military service, home loan guaranties, pensions, burials, and health care that includes the services of nursing homes, clinics, and medical centers.

    Heroes Night Out offers a number of services and activities including peer-to-peer groups and activities, individual & family rehabilitative activities, on-site counseling, a Veteran Service Officer (claims/benefits), VA Loan Specialist, and representatives from the Texas Workforce Commission.
